Finally…The Magic Bullet for a Lean Body!

Everyone is searching for that magic bullet to fitness success.  Losing weight is difficult and can take time which doesn’t go over well in our “I want it now” society.  Watch TV for 30 minutes and you will see multiple commercials advertising a quick weight loss solution.  “No exercise necessary” they say.  “Eat this and lose weight fast” and “take this pill and melt away the body fat” are two other popular ad lines (by the way, it’s impossible to “melt” away body fat).

As Oprah once said, “If there was a pill out there the really worked and really helped you lose weight safely and effectively…don’t you think I would have it?”  She’s right.  But do not fret.  There is a magic bullet to weight loss.  There IS something you can do that guarantees to shed the fat.  It’s called synergy.

When you have synergy your body becomes a fat burning machine as opposed to a fat storing machine.  Synergy is amazing, it extremely effective, and the results last!  I’m beginning to sound like an infomercial, huh?

So what in the world is synergy?  Well I fear that the answer will disappoint some folks but I hope that it will inspire many more; because there is a long term solution to fat loss, there always has been.  The problem is that most want results right now, with minimal effort.

Synergy is not pill, or a diet, or some fancy thigh busting, ab building, butt reducing contraption.  Synergy is good old fashion hard work and discipline.  Synergy is effectively combining the five essential elements of health and fitness at the same time.

1.   Resistance training-We must work the muscles if we want to burn fat.
2.    Cardiovascular training-Cardio aids in fat burning and keeps our heart and lungs healthy.
3.    Proper Nutrition-Eat 5-6 small meals every day, watch portions size, cut down on sugar and fats.
4.    Rest-The body must have time to recover.  Too much exercise can have a negative effect.
5.    I’ll tell you the fifth in just a minute…

Most people will embark on an exercise routine that includes one or two of these elements but rarely all four.  When you eliminate even one of the above, success will be fleeting at best.

Think about it.  If you are doing cardio 3-4 times a week, resistance training 3 times a week, eating properly, and getting your rest (they call it beauty sleep for a reason).  How can you fail?  The problem is that this is not easy.  But then again nothing worth having ever is.

This formula is not new.  It is not something I created to sound smart.  It has always been this way.  The problem is we have gotten into this “I want results tomorrow with minimal work” mentality.  The pill manufacturers and diet book authors know this and feed off of it.  They know that if they promise fast results, the money will come, and come fast.  Who cares if their pills or diets are ineffective and unsafe?  They’re getting rich!

It’s time to get back to basics. There was no obesity epidemic 30 years ago.  Why?  Because people got off their rear-end and ate healthy unprocessed natural foods.  They didn’t go on fad diets and take special miracle pills.  Just old fashioned hard work and good clean eating.  This still works today.

Now, the fifth element, accountability.  Many of you are probably thinking, “Ha, easy for you to say.  How am I supposed to cardio, resistance train, eat right, and get plenty of rest with my schedule?  I’ve got work, kids, husbands or wives, tennis, church obligations, etc.”  Trust me, I hear you.  I have a wife, three kids, my own business, I’m a member of my church, and much more.  It can be very tough.

That’s where accountability comes in.  You can be accountable to many different people.  You can be accountable to a friend, a work out buddy, your spouse, or a trainer.  The point is when someone else is counting on you or you have an appointment to exercise, you will make time.  As humans we don’t like to disappoint.  If we know someone is counting on us, waiting on us, we will show.  And isn’t showing up the hardest part?

So the next time someone says, “Oh, I wish there was a secret to losing weight and keeping it off”, you can tell them there is…Synergy!  Keep in mind there are 168 hours in the week, applying synergy only requires about 6 of them.  That leaves 162 hours to do all the other things.  Just six hours a week, isn’t our health worth that?
